Take Time to Smell the Roses

Having a cup of tea in Costa this morning (where me and my hubby always have deep and meaningful chats) we got to talking about when we were younger and how life always seemed to be so busy, raising a family, work, looking after the home; having to wait once a year for a holiday away where we would do all kinds of things as a family; although we did used to go on walks and days out together. We both said how we didn't seem to take notice of the day to day things, small things. For a while now after both going through a few health problems, we started to take more notice of the things around us that we can miss; sitting in our garden, watching the birds, butterflies and bees; admiring the flowers and watching the seasons; sitting in our garden room and watching the rain, the wind blowing through the trees; looking up at the sky, amazed by the clouds and oceans of aeroplanes with people travelling to all kinds of places, wondering where they were going. We are so grateful for life; we watch people coming and going, rushing here and there and thankful we are in our later years. Oh don't get us wrong, we know there will be people who say 'you're retired, it's okay for you' well, yes, but you don't have to be retired to just stop and listen, look, think. I wish we would have done more of it when we were younger. Even younger people if they took a bit of time out from social media and maybe feel they don't match up to others, could benefit so much if they took 10 minutes in a quiet space to find out who they really are. We are all precious, unique. We live in a world with chaos, pain, fear, stress and more, but there is beauty if we will look, hear and be thankful. It is good for the mind, heart and soul. You don't have to wait til you're old. Maybe next time you walk past a tree, flower, butterfly, watch the rain or simply look up at the sky, you will find your little bit of peace and know you belong here, just as you are.
